Mission Statement
This website is meant to be a place where you can find simple, quick recipes that require minimal clean up. The goal is to help busy or lazy people get into the kitchen to make food that costs less and is just as appealing (if not more) than fast food. The rules I have set forth for each recipe are as follows:
- No long winded story/photography montage about myself or the recipe.
- Only one cooking implement (pot, pan, or baking dish) and two prep dishes (mixing bowl, cutting board, plate, etc.) will be used, at maximum, for each recipe.
- Ingredients will require minimal processing (chopping, whipping, pre-cooking, etc) with minimal equipment.
- Instructions will only require a stove, conventional oven, and/or microwave oven.
- Recipes should take less than one hour, total, of hands on time.
- Recipes will require no more than 15 ingredients.
- Recipe will only require spices from the 20 Essential Spices list.
- Recipes that utilize ingredients that come in larger containers than needed (such as pickles, tomato paste, etc) will be recurrent in other recipes.
As a side note, rule #5 is worded the way it is because I will be posting recipes that can be prepared the day (or more) beforehand, causing the total time preparing to be much longer than actual time handling the recipe.
20 Essential Spices
One of the reasons many people decide not to start cooking is because it costs a fortune to begin a spice cabinet. To help ease this issue (though I unfortunately cannot fix it completely) all Utilitarian Kitchen Recipes will only use spices found on this list.
